    My barn...

I belong to a photography group that meets informally and the 'leaders' give us tags to draw an assignment. A few weeks back mine was 'history'.

    Beautiful shot, Interesting barn.
That's quite a steep roof pitch. They must get alot of snow.

    Re: My barn...

Thanks...now I'm considering a whole barn series! We don't get a ton of snow, but it can pile up. I was hurrying to get the shot because the snow was beginning to fall. I had to shoot across a field and with a tripod because I shake so bad from the disease I'm fighting. My next investment will be a wireless remote!

My next assignments are "shapes" and "eggs". But not together! I'm clueless on how I'm going to set it up.

Is that barn still being used? A great area. I have not been back there since the forest service summer job, but for a hunting trip.

Freygr - I think they use it some because the doors were open on it the other day. The old barn by the Cora Bridge ( if you remember where that is) collapsed this winter during the deep snow.

The summer job was in 1965, at 1.75 per hour, the hunting trip was in 1973 I think. One of the old large barns at that time had collapsed. The area most likely has really changed since I was up there, and most likely I would not remember it that much. But some day I may be able to get back up that way

. . . very 'rustic' looking - the steep pitch on the roof is complimented by the slope of the trees in the background !

    Re: My barn...

An update on my barn photo...last month there was an Arts Festival in town. It is open to all types of media and they awarded two places. I had my photo professionally matted and framed, took a deep breath and entered. I had the opportunity to have the juror critique my work and he had wonderful things to say. I could have taken my photo and left happy after that. Well, on the first day of the festival I went to see all the entries. As soon as I walked in the room I saw my photo with the 2nd place award on it! I was so surprised! I won $75!!!!! How exciting is that? I just thought I'd share!

Didn't look at the date when I opened the thread and thought that looked familiar.
Congrats for a well deserved award!
And yes don't be a stranger. How'd your shapes and eggs assignment go?

    Re: My barn...

Sorry I haven't been around! Thanks for the congrats, guys! My diseases that I came down with last year (Polymyositis and Interstitial Lung disease) have been flaring and I've been pretty sick for the past month. I haven't fired a shot in well over 6 weeks! I'm hoping to get out soon and shoot something...even if it's from my front porch! I've been saving my money for a Sigma 105 mm. lens. Any opinions on it? And, even though I've not been active here - I do come and lurk and look!

I love this! Your composition is very cool - love the lead-in to your subject barn provided by the tree line - and what a treat that barn is (love that subject, anyway!)

Thanks, Paula. I think I'm going to shoot this barn in different seasons since it always is changing. I need to try to get a photo of the final, framed image. It's hanging in my office at work where I can admire it!

I hope you recover, and my prayers are with you. Have you considered looking on ebay? You may be able to find a 105 mm used lens for you camera (Canon, Nikon or ?? ).

    Re: My barn...

I thought about ebay, but I'm afraid I'll get a damaged lens and then be out my money! I have a Canon Rebel XT.
