    Washington Monument #Gazillion and 2

It was very overcast and well before sunrise when I took these. The reflecting pool was mostly drained so I was able to get some of the bottom into the first image.

    Too dark and moody?

    I like both a lot.

The light (sky, illuminated foreground) in #1, particularly, is magical. Was it a long exposure?

I was hand holding so nothing longer than about 1/6 of a second. I don't know if that is long or not but it was dark and moody out there so I underexposed compared to what the meter suggested to get that dark look.

    MB,

This is difficult because I like the top picture and the mood but it looks a touch soft on my laptop, the composition works and the moon or is it the sun is an excellent capture.

The bottom one looks a little tilted to me but it could be an optical illusion. The lighting is ok but again its a bit soft to me . A tripod would have been good.

I like the 2nd, but if you walk a few steps to one of the sides to get the congress building in the background.
Back when you could set a tripod @ Lincoln Memorial I took the picture from one of the corners, I have it in my wall.

First one is definitely the better out of the two. The second one is too symetrical. I like the mysteriousness of the first. It still needs a punch though, maybe a slight contrast boost. As it looks right now, it lacks contrast. but composition and the atmosphere or the feeling of it are portrayed really well.
