    New Horses

    Greetings all.
Finally have had a few moments to post some horse shots that I did on a day that while bright, the time of day really created some HARSH lighting....
It actually worked in our favor on the one horse...the shadows hide the fact that his shoes were really loose and his toes could have stood a trim....Love comments!

    Cheers,
    sue.

Actually they are Rocky Mountain Horses. They are a gaited breed. I shot their horses for a couple of advertisements they needed to do. I am actually going to be shooting a horse show for them in a month.

    Re: New Horses

I don't know a thing about horses. But I know pretty when I see it and those are beautiful. It's nice to have a little diversity on this forum, too. It often feels like we just have ball and stick sports here. So anytime there's something different, I am very pleased.

I don't know if you're looking for constructive criticism or not. But there are some simple things you could do to make photos like this better next time. The first is shoot in the morning or evening. These look like midday photos. They're very contrasty and it looks like you had to blow out the riders' shirts to get detail in the horses. Better light would definitely help. You could also have the riders wear darker shirts. That may not be kosher in the horse world, though. I don't know. You might also try flash to get some highlights in the horse coat.

Like I said, I don't know much about horses, but I do know about photography. The blown out white shirts really distract me. If they were toned down a bit I think the photos would be more comfortable. Hope you don't mind my unsolicited advice. And I also hope you'll stick around and post more photos. It's nice to have a wide variety of sports represented on this forum.
