    same shed/barn... different view

I intended every shot I took today to be b/w but so far this is the only one that has ended up that way.
This is the clearest shot I could get of the shed in "too busy" and I guess I like it better than I first thought.
    What do you think?

I like the other picture much better. In the first picture the composition was nice, the contrast good, a nice sky and sharp with nothing blown out. In this one the snow is blown out the horizon line is off, just a mass of tress for the back ground, flat with little contrast or detail, and it is just a straight on side shot of an old building. The only problem I saw with the first one was it was too busy. Myself I think the first one has much more character and is done much better except for it being a little busy.Jeff

This one isn't bad, but I would rotate the whole thing about 1.5 degrees left. The top of the roof is level, but everything else is tilting to the right. I don't mind the forrest background, and really like that clump of weeds in the right side foreground.

    Thankyou, Greg, Jeff, Jetrim!
I debated whether to rotate it but the shed does lean with a level roof so I left it.
I think I will see if I can recover anymore in that snow, Jeff.
    Here's the color edit.

I don't think the pix is crooked, Frog. You've got some optical illusions going on in it, but you held the camera level, and if you tilt this shot, it will really look strange. There's a little blowout, but it's snow! Try underexposing 1/3 stop or so, and I'll bet if you move to the left for the next shot, people won't think it crooked.

I prefer the colour edit Frog. I'm not sure if the B&W version adds anything to the shot :S

Leave the tilt, it adds something extra to the shot.

    Re: same shed/barn... different view

Frog - I think it's so-so. Simple winter scenes can work, but here I think the the composition is a bit too pedestrian. I don't see the bush clutter as being too much an issue, but rather that it is missing something - a deer perhaps? I am also conflicted on the tilt: in some ways it adds a twist, but it mostly looks like a mistake (it's a tough call when something you're doing for flair can look like a mistake -- they say to exaggerate the effect so that there's little doubt that it was done intentionally).

    Anyway - good hunting.
