    A Short Summer

I skied fresh snow on June 6th, it snowed at 9000 feet last week, and the leaves are starting to turn in the mountains. I think this is the shortest summer I've ever experienced. I'm looking forward to skiing, for sure. But the end of summer always feels a little sad.

Photo was taken yesterday in Park City with the Olympus E-520 and Olympus 18-180mm lens.

Don't worry about condensation. Life's too short for stuff like that. Believe me - whatever you're worrying about with your camera, I've done it 20 times for you. If you're worried about condensation, just don't let your camera change temperatures too quickly. Keeping it in a camera bag does the trick. The camera bag padding insulates it enough to keep it from changing temperature too quickly. But even if it does get some condensation in it, I don't think it will really hurt anything. I've fogged up tons of cameras tons of times. Sometimes you just have to try to get the picture. And so far I haven't had a camera quit on me because of condensation. At least I don't think I have...

No shortage of summer in the Bay Area.It seems like some things are just starting to bloom with the abnormal cool may-august. Recently...record high temps, lots of drought talk around here.
Nice shots John. That first one is special. Your work always impresses.

    Nice photos, John.

There's nothing abnormally cool or short about the summer down here. It'll be two more months before we see any yellow leaves. The end of the summer around here is like a sigh of relief. Finally we can start with our outdoor activities again. Mountain biking is best from October through April. The rest of the year you have to get up at the crack of dawn, when it's only about 80.

64 degrees in my house this morning.

We didn't have snow in June, but it was chilly, and now, early September, cold again.

That first one looks like fabric on an old chair.
    I sleep, but I don't rest.

These are gorgeous, John, but the first one's so dimensional. I feel like I can reach out and pick the tiny little trees off the screen...

    Re: A Short Summer

Nice stuff, John. This year I got up to Lake Superior three times. On August 1st, I saw some signs of changing leaves. That doesn't usually happen until closer to the end of that month. Over Labor Day I saw quite a few trees with color - and near the lake it's a bit warmer in the fall so it's not the first area to change. Weird... Around here, 300+ miles south, the acorns started falling a few weeks ago. I think we're in for another good** winter.

**Good = snow and cold, btw

That is awesome. What a great pic. It is very two dimensional and looks like a blanket or cloth of some sort. That is definitely a keeper!

    Re: A Short Summer

John, I agree. Summer has been too short in the Great White North. New snow on the mountains, robins are gone, poplars are turning yellow and frost warnings are out. On the positive side, this opens up a whole new season for photos, so let's get at it.

    Cheers,
