I definitely think your photos are getting better. I see better timing, better framing, and better exposure (or processing). Looks like you are self-editing better, too. Quality control - only show your best!

Of what you posted, I like this one the best:

You're on the money about the comments, thank you. I rarely ever did any cropping as I always try to frame it right. With boxing & MMA however, the fighters are moving around so quickly and it's tough to compose and frame that quickly (for me at least).

For this event, I cropped to frame a little better.

The lighting was great and I was able to get 1/500 out of my D200 @ f/2.8 and somewhere in the 1000-1600 ISO range.

I did run into one snag however. Apparently the D200 will go to 1/200 in manual mode when coupled with the SB-800 is used. I realized this later in the night when my camera magically was at 1/200 and not 1/500. Quite a few of my shots were a little blown out due to the longer duration.

Overall, I feel that I'm on the right track and most of all, it's a blast.

Now I need to find a sponsor to gain accreditation. I'll only ever cover the small venues until I have backing from a magazine or publisher.

What would you do to improve on these photos? Do you do a lot of cropping?

I think that the pics are nice. # 5 is the best as it shows good color and is sharp. Also the action is great. You do not have impact, but you have just after with the eyes closed and the sweat flying. Good picture for a "story".

Also, with the flash... I use canon but also get limited with shutter speed with a flash. You have to know the sync speed with the flash and you can adjust accordingly. But you know that know.

I look forward to your pics. Keep posting !!!
