This pair of Downy woodpeckers arrived shortly before our first big snowfall. I assume they're sticking around because of the many feeders in the area with an abundance of suet cakes.
The image of the male has been cropped a bit for composition but the image of the female is straight out of the camera with a minor levels adjustment.
The female is getting quite used to me being there now and will let me get as close as about 10 - 12 feet from her. The male is still a lot skittish and jets off at the slightest noise...including the sound of the shutter going off. I am hoping that the male will start getting as used to me as the female is now.
