    Last Football Game

Here are a few of a young man who I have had the honor to coach and watch grow up as a person. As a 5'-7" 150 pound running back and defensive back, his football career is almost certainly over with Friday nites loss in the CIF playoffs.
These kids come from a school of 375 kids and most of them have known and played with each other since grade 1.
They were trading scores with their opponent until their quarterback suffered a devestating knee injury. The fumble was the first play after the injury and we were never able to recover.
The last picture shows three of the seniors praying for their friend after the game was over.

Sorry to hear about the QB. I do love the pic of them praying.

Your post put a lump in my throat because it's so true. Most of these senior boys are at the end of their football career. When it's something most of these kids have put blood, sweat and tears into almost their whole lives, it's a very hard moment to watch. At least for me.

    Re: Last Football Game

The worst part of this job is seeing kids injured and I have seen a lot of them this season for some reason, especially the seniors. One team had one senior that had missed the entire season after injuring a knee in practice, he carried the ball on the last play of the season for his only official carry of this season. Even after the injury and surgery he was at every practice, game and team meeting, helping out the other players and so forth.

I hope this player heals quickly! And the bottom two photos are great.

Thank you JETA and JS, you I know you both know what it is all about with young people and sports.
It is hard to see kids injured and you never get used to it. As a coach it makes you feel a little better knowing that you are involved with a TEAM with kids that truely care about each other. I caught the last two shots by accident , I was leaving and happened
to look back at the field. The place was almost empty except for some of the opponents
waiting to go to the locker room and these three kids.

Yep, I sure know. Seeing those boys hurt kills me to the core.

When I broke my leg last month so many of the Seniors were upset. I kept on telling them better me then you. It's part of the game and I can handle being broken better then I can handle them being broken.

It funny how you catch those moment by accident. My most prized photos from last season were caught that way too. My 6 yo daughter ran almost 50 yards chasing Brendan down the field after he lost his last game of the season. He scooped her little body up and swung her around hugging her. He's crying and she's screaming his name and saying I love you. Parents were sobbing at the sight. I stood there taking 8 fps. lol
