    It's BACK!!!

Yes football is back in the Bluegrass. First preseason games yesterday. I'm in a big hurry (getting out of here for the weekend) but wanted to throw up a few before I go. Hope you enjoy football as much as I do.

    Re: It's BACK!!!

Yes it IS that time again. Great shots OT!! I really like #4, the motion blur of the tackler really shows the speed of the hit. I have been busy shooting T&I for the local teams and some scrimmage action getting ready for the first game next Friday. It will be a good one as it's the cross-county rivalry. Here's a couple from last night. In the second one a sophomore back puts it in "the zone" for the first score of the year. Great stuff!

Yup, it's back......and I was 0-5 on the first night as the four county teams lost, most pretty badlry and my old school got thumped as well. It looks like it will be a looooong nine weeks and shortplayoff run

    Re: It's BACK!!!

We won't have our first official pre-season game until August 31. All the shots look good. Like that first shot OT and nice capture JS.

We did have a intra-team scrimmage game, where I did a grab a couple of shots. So here are a couple to share.

    Re: It's BACK!!!

Thanks Homer, I meant to say on that dive it was their first TD of the regular season  I had one from the series that I sent the paper and they didn't use it...that could mean they are saving it for this weeks preview though. They did run a shot of a pass breakup and the ball is on the shoulder of the defender (good guy)

The staff photog got a really wild shot, guys trying to make a tackle but his helmet came off and it's hanging from his mouthguard (and mouth) as he's trying to reach for the rusher....absolutely wild shot.

Hey I like that handfull of jersey there Homer

    Re: It's BACK!!!

Nice first outing everyone. It takes a few downs to start getting the football timing and reflexes going again, but it sure felt good. Don't you wish all the games were played with a little daylight to shot in. Love being able to pick apertures, shutter speeds and ISOs instead of being dictated to by lighting conditions. Hope everyone has a great football season.

I hate it though when the sun is behind the players....they won't ask us where or how to build fields or light them or gyms

    Re: It's BACK!!!

Great pics OT! You know I'm loving the first one, but think they are all great!

Things here are insane. I already have almost 1300 pics loaded to my football website, finished my pre-season slideshow, final proof of the program to be looked at today and then Sept. 1st is our game at Qwest Field (Seahawk Stadium). I'm dying over the chance to shoot there.

These are terrific JETA. Hard to believe these images are coming from the same photographer we first saw post here asking for advice. Pro quality stuff, move over JS here she comes. That fumble series is great, just got to love it when the action is coming right at you at a time like that.

    Re: It's BACK!!!

Thanks OT. I've learned so much here and still do almost daily.

Next year I'm actually going to be a paid photographer. Something I never wanted to do, but now I'm kinda looking forward to it.

Thank you for all of your nice compliments. There isn't one single time I shoot these guys and don't think of you and JS.

    Re: It's BACK!!!

Wow JETA.....nice! and BTW, that aint LITTLE!

Hey OT, I have to confess, last Friday was my third game, I had the ALLStars last month and then our scrimmage the week before and then last weeks game.
This Friday will be fun, I'll be shooting two games, one in Muncie and then on the way back hit another right on the way home I can't claim mileage on #2 though as I'd have to go right past it anyway to get home

Todays cross country got rained out.... heavy rains and lightning blasted central Indiana, flooded roads and knocked out power in my area....silly computer wants power to run so it was taking a nap when I got home

Yes, and exciting it is. Great pictures. I have a question on Focus that maybe everybody can weigh in on. How do you get such tack sharp closeup pictures from the sidelines?
I have very similar if not the same equipment, get a lot of the same type of shots but they always seem a little out of focus compared to you guys. I have my Canon Mark 2n setup as was recommended by several on the forum I use a 70-200 2.8 lens and get a few sharp focus pictures most of the time but seem to be a little dissapointed by most. I thought I was a little better than that. I know experience and ability means a lot.

    Re: It's BACK!!!

How are you focusing, using the shutter button or the ^ button? If using the shutter button switch it over to the ^ and ptactice until you get used to it. Using this you can let off or keep it pushed as needed instead of constant focusing . The stting is in your CFn4 custom functions.
Also what other settings are you using on your focus? There are several to look at in the menus, including under CFn and PFn and they all affect how the AF works. If needed read up on them in the manual

My focus button is the * button on the top right of the camera back or the one with the
-magnifying emblem, and I have it set to centerpoint focus on AI servo. Are you supposed to hold it down while shooting? That might be my problem I usually let go before I press the shutter.

    Re: It's BACK!!!

As long as your target doesn't move too much, but it may be moving out of focus while your pressing the button.

ALSO! Make sure YOUR not moving the camera as you press the shutter button! That causes more problems than you could realize, especially in sports and nature shooting.
Holding the camera properly is paramount to getting sharp photos.
