get out of your comfort zone

well today I went to help out with a benefit foundation at a local baseball game by taking photos of them. Not gonna post the journalistic shots just because I want them to appear in the paper first, but while I was there I decided to just have some fun with slow shutter speeds. I did pretty damn horribly, but it yielded some halfway decent shots, pretty cool. Just goes to show what can happen when you get out of your comfort zone, and try shooting a way you've never tried. these were 1/10, ISO 100, and whatever aperture yielded a correct exposure.

I would like to know what you were trying accomplish? I do like the second where the batter is swinging at the ball.

The bat movement in the second one looks like brush strokes.
    It's not blurry. It's bokeh.

But Brent........my comfort zone is so....well.....comfortable.

Seriously though, it really is good to try new things. Next ballgame I attend, I'll try a couple of those.

i wasn't really trying to accomplish anything, other than lots of blur mixed with sharp features. Kind of just going for an abstract look. It was the first time in a while that I have just gone out to shoot for the heck out it.

Brent I personally like them. That is the fun of digital shooting, you can try to what works with out buying rolls of film.

These are great! It's always fun to explore what you can do. You may not be accomplishing anything other than knowing what you and your equipment can do with certain settings for the future - but that's really important to know. Plus it's just fun to get creative and have things work out.

    Agree'd these are great!!

ITs funny, people get canned for not panning (& just freezing the action) in motor sport images, but they dont like this kind of thing in other sport images.

It gives a good impression of motion. They are certainly worthy shots. Well done

Re: get out of your comfort zone

    Nice thread.

Photos like this with a slow shutter speed have a great impression of the movement, rather than the moment.

For me well out of my comfort zone is something without wheels
Or pushing the envelope of shutter speed, aperture, iso, to the point where I'm doing something new to an old subject.
