    Butterflies have Arrived!

From last evening. This small field was already in deep shadow with only a few patches of sunlight here and there. After taking some dismal "insurance" shots at ISO 800, I figured that was it. Then these two landed on just about the only sunlight areas that had flowers in them. A few minutes later, the sunlight was completely gone.

    1st shot: 300mm + 2x TC (very flighty b-fly) at ISO 400, nearly full-frame
    2nd shot: 300mm alone at ISO 250, full-frame

I'm off now to a date with another field tonight. See you all tomorrow!

    Re: Butterflies have Arrived!

Magnifico. I especially like the last one with the contrasting colors. The butterfly in that one is awesome. BTW, have you ever photographed at a butterfly house? I just learned there is one 95 miles from me and was wondering if it would be worth my $6 to get in. Their website doesn't tell very much and they don't return emails.

    Once again, sweeeet photos.

Wonderful shots Loupey, I got a couple of butterfly shots the other day and was not real happy with them. Guess I need more practice with manual focus.

    Re: Butterflies have Arrived!

Minnesota scroller - thanks for the comment, much appreciated. Here is a link to the thread of my visit to our local conservatory from earlier this year. It only has one small room with butterflies but one can find some decent shots if you stake out your space. 95 miles seems kinda far but $6 is a steal.

    Yarrow - thanks!

scott-devon - keep workin' on it; can't go wrong with manual focus

    Re: Butterflies have Arrived!

polarbeardiggers - nice job. Point-and-shoots tend to have a significant shutter lag so catching fast moving/fluttering subjects is tough.

photochick- thank you for your comments - much appreciated Welcome to the site! I may be biased but you started off in the "right" forum
