    Butterfly Exhibit

As much as I don't like shooting captive butterflies or crowds, I decided to try it today.

Our local conservatory started the annual Blooms and Butterflies exhibit yesterday (Saturday) and it will run for the next 5 1/2 months. I knew the crowds would be large so I took my 300mm and a pocket full of extension tubes and off we went. The 180mm macro stayed home (still haven't given it a fair test ). But I wanted to go light and fast = without tripod nor monopod.

I didn't want to get the "normal shots" that the throngs were getting. So I staked out 3 spots for about 2 hours and shot only a few individual specimens which happened to land in the "right" spots. Came out soaked in sweat and mist

    Thanks for looking.

Very good series Loupey, i am just now seing that you dont have to have the complete subject in the photo in order to have a great Capture. Well Photographed oh Master of the lens

BTW : Is your signature pre made, or do you type it in every time ?

    Re: Butterfly Exhibit

    Thanks Erik, Copy, Bev!

Jaedon, I was thinking the same thing about the "peeking" after I reviewed these. Looking back, I've done it at least once on every subject. It must be how I view them (as timid/shy - wary of people - I guess). I need to go find some tough brutes to shoot Good observation!

Knight, ask me last year and I would have said that one doesn't need to get so close I was trying some new techniques here and intentionally went for the more offbeat comps. Thanks for noticing! The signiture line I just copy a line of text and paste it in each time. There's probably is an easier way but I haven't had a chance to figure PS out as much as I would like.

Here are 5 more pixs including the rarely seen shot of yours truly (I usually work alone) trying to fall over a railing to get the right angle/background. I post it here to show the working distance that I can get out of the 300mm with tubes. Just about right for this size/type of subject. The rest I submit because I'm happy with the background selection in them. Yes, some more "peeking shots" too

Thanks for looking Copy and Emily!

Rumrak, the conservatory at Niagara is very nice (at least the last time I was there a few years ago). Much nicer than ours. Hope you do get a chance to go there and post your results here
