    Basketball

Well this weekend has been an odd one, It started Friday with one team getting it's second win of the season and doing it by 20 points. Then at noon the paper calls to ask me to do a shoot at the airport at 1. A kid from a local school was supposed to take his first solo flight, but due to winds being too strong that got scrubbed. He did however go up for some practice landings with his instructor.
When I got home and checked the pictures I found some serious problems with black streaks that shouldn't be there. So on Monday the MK II N is off to get checked out. But I still had to shoot another game tonight so I had to go to the backup, my original 1D. I hadn't used it since October of 2005 except an occasional shot here and there when I didn't want to change lenses. Anyway these are from that camera. And for the second night in a row this team pulled off a 20 point win.

#1: The losing coach points out what he thinks is a foul to a ref.
#2: A little motion blur, just enough to give the shot some movement
#3: Fouled, and it turned into a three point play.
#4: You can't tell they are leading by 20 from the coaches appearance.

Hey JS, I like the lighting on these. You may have mentioned it in the past but what lighting setup if any did you use?

Thanks Jim, but there is no secret to this lighting, it's the gym! No flash, no extra lighting. This gym has very white walls, and a combination of Sodium & florescent lights, but somehow it works.
    camera settings are:
    WB: Auto
    ISO: 1250
    Shutter: 320
    Aperature: f2/8

The normal post processing was done except I used the eliminate shadows.

I would have never guessed this in a million years. You make it sound so easy.

Great shots as always JS. I really like the first one.
    It's not blurry. It's bokeh.

    Re: Basketball

    Thanks JETA.
That first shot was the vistors coach and he was really upset over a call earlier in the game and at every little thing was giving the officials an earfull, this being one of those times.
I have to admit, I have never seen this school play so poorly, but they were just awefull and it showed when the home team went up 9-0, and even they missed their first 5 shots! It should have been 20-0 then. Whats worse is the visitors are a much bigger team and they were getting beaten inside, both offensivly and defensivly.....you know it was very long bus ride home for them.

Now I have to run, I have my 4th Christmas concert to do (and final one for this year!) (these things are not for me..... )

Love the two action shots John. That blocking foul is top notch. Sorry to here about the MKII. I had a similar situation with my D2H right at the start of the football season last year, but Nikon gave me a great turnaround time and I didn't hardly miss a beat. Hope you have the same luck.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

The last time Canon had one it took 8 weeks to get it back, no parts was the excuse. Thats why I ended up with the MK II N. Then they sent it back a mess, the IR filter was dirty, the mirror had finger prints on it...I was furious to say the least.
