    flames

... from the DTM at Hockenheim

The trick is to watch the cars for a lap or two.
Spot the ones with intersting behaviour, in this case waste fuel on the overrun, at Brands hatch it was suspension bottoming out nad skid plates hitting the track.
Then watch and listen to predict the behaviour so you know when to shoot.
Interesting to see the Audi and Mercedes difference, isn't it?

Oh and of course you will watch the lighting, as the sun angle changed the cars came into shodow on the exhaust side, which meant the flame was much more prominent.

    And the pros?
They were all on the exit of the corner in their press boxes.
Right next to the track, fantastic for the side lighting on the cars showing all the sponsor details.
And on the wrong side for these shots from the stands at the end of the sachs curve !

Why not come over to the UK for the Brands Hatch round next year?
It's a great circuit for photography without a press pass.
Close access to the track in many places, and paddock access for around $50 per day.
I actually had a grandstand seat that I didn't use because the photo opporutnities were too good.

Of if you want a drive, I think it's around $5m for a seat for the season
But you've got to be good, as Bleekemolen, Kiesa and Bjork found out in their game of musical chairs ...
