    Friday Nights - Week #2

Okay - so week 1 - the flash batteries were dead and it was my fault for replacing them... I even had fresh ones on the shelf (bought 2 days prior) ready to go... DOH - no Friday night pics last week.

This weeks game was actually on Saturday night. Before the varsity game, I went over all the settings with Mike (my 15 year old son who runs around the field taking the pictures).

We are using a Canon 20D with a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 with a Speedlight 420EX. I am really unhappy with the quality of the photos - so I went back to look at the pictures from last year to see what the settings were. The same as far as I could tell. The camera was set in Aperture Priority with the f stop at 2.8. Last years shots were being shot at an ISO of 1600 and 1/250 of a second at f/2.8. This year the average night shot is posted with the settings... I don't know why or what I did to the camera to change the settings to keep it from going to 1600.

Luckily Mike got about 5-6 shots the paper can use...

I shoot in manuel and I know for sure where those stting are at all times. Aperture priority of shutter priority is ok if you know for sure that you are not going to drop below certain settings, but is there is a chance as there was with these night football got to manuel and you don't have to worry about it. As far as the ISO I think we have all done something like that at one time or another. You just have to make sure and double check those settings.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

That's a bummer about yoru iso. I only shoot manual now, but I'm really questioning some of my settings. My pics from the first game were horrible. Out of focus and dark. I guess the field lighting sucked as did my pics. lol
    It's not blurry. It's bokeh.
