A few mtb shots

I'm just geting into photography, and been out experimenting with a Nikon P1. Hopefully be getting a D50 with 18-200mm lenses for xmas.

What do you think of my first couple of shots? and o yeh, I'm a mountain biker so thats why they are all of mtbing.

I think you'll probably get more comment if you upload the images here, rather than having just the links and nothing to see. It's an extra step for people to go look at the images, and then come back here to comment - you can make it easier for them :thumbsup:
But if you're uploading here, we have a site rule that you should only post your own images.


The first one is rather flat, no bright highlights, no deep shadows, quite apart from being desaturated. I don't like over-saturated post processed images, but this one I think has gone too far the other way in desaturation. You would have been OK if it had good contrast I think.

The second, honestly I'd rather see real blur. I'm not sure what it is about this, but it just looks odd. I think it's because there are sharp areas of background that ought to blurred if this was real panning blur. Also it's far too large to see properly, even on my 1600x1200 monitor.

Third one is intesresting. I can't make up my mind how much bike I want to see, more or less. Whether I want to see more of the bike, or closer up detail. One change might be to have fresh mud on the bike, rather than dried? I think the darker colour, and the dirty, mucky bike agianst the clean well-kept background might make more impact.

Fourth one, I don't think can stand on its own, there's nothing sharp.

The last one, again is's so huge that I can't see it to judge it.


Uploading here means resizing the images to 640 pixels in the longest edge, and no more than 190K for a jpeg if you want it in a message.
Larger images can be posted to the gallery, and we have a Sports gallery as well as a critique gallery, where you can get advice.

I think if you make the images visible here, you may get more than just my opinion !
Give it a try with some more images.
