    Out at first...timing is everything

Sheesh, I can't keep up with OT!!! He sure ain't acting like an Old Timer!
From tonights game, that featured one of the countries best young pitchers and although he was on the losing end he started the game off by getting a base hit, then scored the first run of the game. He went out and pitched a great first inning and the third out came on this play at first as he threw the runner out. My knees are shot so I rarely get down low to shoot and just happened to do it this time at the right time, and even got the tag with the first basemans glove blocking the runners hand.

Jeez JS..........this has all the elements of a great newspaper shot. I'll bet it gets in. Way to go.

Actually it won't make the cut! I know, but it doesn't show anything of the "local" kids face, just his butt, I didn't even send it in.

Re: Out at first...timing is everything

You got the timing thing right JS, but the thing you have to remember is that you have to have the good close plays first. Unless you got a good game with good players and close plays you just cant get the really good shots. Tonight my firend you did it. Great shot here.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Re: Out at first...timing is everything

Your right there OT, I thought this was going to be one of those games too. In fact there were three close plays, I got all three, but this was the best, and it wouldn't make the paper so I put it here. This was the same place I got the play at home last week. Whew, it's a tough place to shoot action wise....I almost fell asleep again as the pitchers were so good.

Tomorrow I slow things dow a bit...sotfball! Then Saturday things get really wierd. 10am softball, 4pm pre prom pics of a girl for her mom and grandmother. Then at 7pm a prom! Oh crap, never shot that before!

Damn man. I feel for you. That is one hectic day, but I wouldn't worry about the Prom. It should be pretty easy, and you won't have to much pressure from the kids asking you to take their picture.

I shot a number of dances my Senior year of high school for the yearbook, including the post-prom boat cruise. It was pretty easy work, and I got to go to everything for free (yes...even Prom). Except for Prom, where I actually tried to have a little fun, the Yearbook ended up using some of my shots as well.

I almost forgot about the picture. It looks great. The colors are amazingly clear, its sharp, and you did one heck of a job of capturing the action at its peak.

That would definitely be one to add to your portfolio.

hahaha... I just realized that the softball game I have in the morning will include some of the girls that will be at the prom.... this ought to be good! But now the paper added ANOTHER item for the day! Post prom at the school. Prom starts at 8pm, ends at 11pm. Then they all head to the school from 12-3am! Yikes, this is gonna be one looooong day! Good thing I'm off Friday now
I haven't been to a high school dance since I worked as a school police officer back in the early 90's.

That's an early one JS. The post prom at my school last till about 7:00 am. I belong to a club that serves breakfast there at 6:30am each year.

That pic is great. The intensity is there, the splitsecond timing, great focus and all.

see JS, this is the type of photo that does it for me. Good color, sharp, focus is on, and very peak action. One of the nicest shots i've seen in a long time on here.
