Getting Beaned........

Here is a photo that I took last night, while out practicing with my camera. Son's baseball game trying to get the typical bat on ball shot, it stead my son was hit with the ball, while I missed the actual impact I liked the result with the facial expressions.

I would be happy with your constructive input.

Since the ball isn't actually hitting him it's hard to tell if it is before or after. Getting a shot of someone actually getting hit isn't easy though.
The expression is great though. I think I'd get rid of the shadow to make him stand out more.

it's dark on mine, which is calibrated. Looks like it's backlit, and a tad soft. But nice expression.

Yes it is backlit, unfortuatley evening game, late 7:00 pm and I just pulled out the camera and my son was at the plate, so it probably doesn't have the proper white balance to start off with.

JS, on a side note, I have been using your CFn4 tip and it is working much better. It will take me some time to get it. I used it last weekend shooting soccer and the number of photos that parents would buy (decent, not great) dramatically improved. I shot around 300 photos and almost 60 of them were sellable, again not to a gallery or SI but to a mom and dad seeing a good action shot.

One problem however the day was very cloudy and some of the shots are rather flat in reference to color. I will need to continue to work with PS to get the proper balance.

Glad it's working for you Don. It does take practice. Even using that technique for the past 4 years I mess up on occasion, and did so during a game last night where I accidently pushed the * during a play and I got the first shot fine, second blurred, third fine....and I could have used the second one......Oh well.

Oh man..... I hate seeing my son hit. His last big one was with the catcher's mask and sliced his face and lip up pretty good. Stitches in three different places.

Sounds to me like you are getting good advice. I've just started shooting with the same camera and like hearing the advice. My colors are a bit flat right b4 sunset. I have much to learn.
