Help With Canon 1d!!!

Greetings all,

i am a new member.

i recently decided to upgrade my canon 300d and purchased a canon 1d second hand off of ebay.

in the cameras custom settings menu i am having problems setting the AutoFocus beam assistance On from an external flash source...i need this setting on because i am a nightlife photographer and take pictures primarily in bars and clubs.

i tried placing the setting "On" from its current "Off" position, but it just still says "Off".

i downloaded the user manual from the canon website but it does not mention this anywhere.

any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance and happy holidays.

Which 1D is this, the original or the mkII?

That is PFn15 - ALL personal functions MUST be set using a computer, software and the correct cable to attach the computer to the camera. This is the same cable you can use to download images from the camera directly to the computer.

It doesn't matter what EOS body your using, if they have Custom Functions or Personal Functions the CFn & PFn numbers are the same for all bodies. However if your body doesn't support that CFn or PFn it will not be available...ie: that CFn or PFn number will be missing in the cameras menu.
THe only difference for the 1D bodies is the cable used to connect the camera to the computer. One (older 1D) uses the old style large connector on the camera side while the MKII & MKII N use a very small camera end connector.

is there a way for me to download the program off of the net? i will search for it for the time being, thanks so much for the help.

unfortunately my camera was purchased second hand and came with no cables or disks....so i will probably need to do a bit of googling, hopefully i can find something...

You may be able to get the software from Canon's site, can't remember if you have to be registered or not though. Some you have to be a regitered owner before you can download them.
Let me know, if you can't get it I may be able to help out (if I can find my original disk in the pile of 600+ CD's).

The cable is a 1394 cable and you can get that at any computer store, even Walmart has had them.
