    Father/Son Enterprise

Ok this was a first for me. I never tried to market any of my photos other than those that were commisioned like weddings and sports photos. However my hometown has what we call the Covered Bridge Festival each year. My son David, who is 26 and an architect, has taken some of my images of our local covered bridges and other local landmarks and done pen and ink sketches that he has had make into prints and note cards. He has been successful marketing them at some local shops. He convinced me that we should team up to have a booth at the festival this year. So he had his prints and I had several of my photographs mostly of the bridges printed and packaged for sale. We were real novices at this type endeavor but had a fun day together and even managed to break even and have more product to sell through other outlets. Joy wanted a picture, so just before we tore down for the day she snapped a couple. It's a little in disarray at this point and much of the mechandise is gone, but you'll get the idea. It was just great for me to spend a day with my son and have a joint interest in an activity.

I think the last sentence of " It was just great for me to spend a day with my son and have a joint interest in an activity " sums it up Larry!!!!

Great for you and your son on your endevour, but the memory of it has value beyond a dollar figure

Ditto what Paul said! I bet you enjoyed your time with your son more than the actual enterprise itself! Keep up the great work!

Thanks to all who commented, you are right the memories of the day spent getting ready and a day together in a joint activity far surpassed any other reward from sales.

That's wonderful. I know that sometimes in life we don't appreciate family as much as we should, but it's obvious you "get it".

My dad handles all the web sites for the local school system. It's nice when he calls me for design advice, and we end up working together. I bet your son loved having you there.

    Re: Father/Son Enterprise

Thanks Andy and Rebecca. I am very fortunate to have sons that still want to be around me and share experiences. I was lucky enough to have worked full time with my father for a few short years before he died. I am so grateful that I had that opportunity to know him and learn form him in that situation. I'm very sorry that none of my children really got to know him, he died at 53 when my children were still very young. Nothing in life has been more satisfying than to watch my children grow into successful young adults.

Yes you are. Just in case you're not aware of the part you've played - it's all because you were and are such a good father. You're their HERO!

    Mine too.

    That's awesome...good stuff

That's a great story, and sounds like a great day with your son. Even more, you were quite succesful to break even and had enough to smile at the end of the day!! You may have to put the grump thing aside ;)
