    Boy in a yellow hat

Took this today at a pool party...it's weird and probably goofy, but I like it.

I feel like there should be some sort of story between the boy and the beach ball because of the composition. Is there?

Well exposed and well composed. I like the inclusion of the crystal blue pool water and the ball in the upper corner.

Nice color shot. I would crop right above his head to get rid of that unpleasent shaded area at the top of the image. Great job!

Great title. I thought of Paddington the bear as I opened it. I have a shot a little like this (without the hat) of my son when he was about six and had a terrific tan with his shorts down a little and the line showing. Like this one, I'm not sure it stands quite along as a photo out of context, but as party of te party album, it is a must-have.

Re: Boy in a yellow hat

Thank you for your comments all!
Livin4, there isn't actually a story behind this, I just loved the colors and wanted to include the ball...heh.
    Gary, thanks!
DJM, thanks to you also! I thought someone would suggest cropping the top. I wasn't sure how it would look though...it seems like it might be off-balance, but I'll try it!
LL, thanks. It makes me think of Curious George too...lol.

    Hi,
The cropping is good. I espeically like the inclusion of blue water and the edge of the pool.

Love the colors in this, and the comp. You can almost feel how cool the water is!

The swim cap is great too! I need one!

Re: Boy in a yellow hat

I have looked at this for what seems ages and I finally figured out what bugged me, that is the boy isn't looking at the ball and so the ball seems a redundant object in the picture and he is also looking at the edge of the picture so your not following his gaze if you see what I mean

I also thought about the crop and that is the bit that stopped me working out what was bugging me. The crop would fail because it would have to be too close to his head to get it to work and especially because he is looking out of the picture.

The bits I do like are the colours - spot on and the composition if he was looking at the ball because then it would tell a story of how do I get from here to there to retrieve that ball.

Bear in mind this is only my opinion.

Re: Boy in a yellow hat

Thanks Roger & Payn, for your comments.
Roger, I see what you're saying...and I can understand this being a sticking point. I tried cropping the ball out of the picture, and it just doesn't look right to me...and you're absolutely right. If I tried to crop it so the shaded part was gone, it would be way too close to his head.
One reason I like the ball in this is because it seems parallel to the boy's head and cap. From the back, his head looked like a ball to me with that cap on...lol. So including the ball seemed fit.
Thanks again for the comments and opinions.
