Natural light Portrait

This is Henry. He has a tendency to run away form other photographers.... but for some reason he likes me... which makes his mom (my client) very happy.

This was my favourite shot from a 45 min shoot with him. Personally I think it is a little soft (shooting at f2.8) but I find that it works for this image. Please let me know what you think about the shot in general good and bad. C&C is welcomed on all aspects of the shot. I can only get better by seeing my shots through the eyes of others.

I think it's a great shot! The only nit pick I see is that with this close a crop you will loose some of the tires and maybe some of the top of his head when you put it in a frame, Jeff

Its a good one that I'm sure his mom will like.
I think you can put a border on it in photoshop and then print with the border so you don't lose anything. I could be wrong about that.
The composition could be a little better with him a little farther into the frame and pillars not growing out of his head but its very nice overall.

Good shot, good choice of f/2.8, you've used natural light very well in this shot. I'd even say the 45 minutes was worth this one shot (though I'm sure you got several more).

If I could be super nitpicking I'd like to see a more solid and smooth bokeh, its already very good but the objects in it are minor distraction as is the solid circle on the upper right corner.

How cooperative was the boy for you?

Thanks for the comments everyone. I did print the shot with a matte border for framing to make sure we didn't cut off any of the image.

The Bokeh was one of my issues too but since he is a "take what you can get" type of subject I wasn't being too picky about background... but still trying to be aware of it and finding the best when I could.

Overall he was a good kid for me. I kept him busy and he forgot about the camera. Getting him riding his bike was probably the best idea of the day. Here are a few others from the shoot.

Great shots and cute kid. From his expressions, he looks to be a reserved personality. Good for you for taking the time to connect with him. If I were going to really nitpick, I would crop out the yellow thing on the right and just enough of the white pillar thing to eliminate that sliver of background between it and the edge of the picture -- but I lean toward tight crops -- and the frame may cover that anyway. Though the image is not razor sharp, as you said, the softness works here. Nice work.
