My first attempt

This was on the spur of the moment when my son called and said I might want to try taking this picture. This is my first attempt and these are the settings. I found out that the wireless remote works well, you just set up the shot and shoot from inside a warm car. If you look close you can see the horizon the moon on the water and the edge of the shorline, Jeff

Good Job for a first attempt, this turned out alot better then my attempts at night shots. Slightly out of focus. It looks like a eclipse more then a lunar shot.

i can see the horizon, shore, and the moon light on water with out looking hard at all! and your horizon needs straightened :-D

Good attempt! Looks alright. Maybe have a play with PS to create some artificial colours?

What are the 2 dots below the moon? are they planets or stars or the tops of sailboats?. do you remember.?

Next time you you shoot something similar drop the iso down to loose the grain and keep the blacks.I think it would work better just watch how long the exposure is so you don't get motion blur from the movement of moon.

I would lower the shutter speed, lower the iso setting (400 max) and use a tripod this would turn out fun.

The two dots are Venus and Jupiter. I did use a tripod with a wireless release but I had no idea what to shoot at and made the exposure too long and the planets moved. I will attempt the moon again with a much lower ISO, shutter speed and different F-stop. Thanks for all the comments and I apologize for not responding quicker. I just didn't notice the replies due to inattention on my part. Being able to see what others shot at will be a great help in my next attempt. Thanks again, Jeff

I so wish to capture the moon - one day (my little point and shoot isn't the one for the job though!) I looked at this the other night - I ran out to find the moon and show my hubby venus and jupiter. I think the photo is a little blurry - and it's not too clear - but I can't blame you.. I am terrible about shooting the moon.

I used a Nikon D80 but the problem that caused the blur was a thirty second exposure and the planets moving. Or to put it simply, operator trouble! I used the wrong settings. That is one of the advantages to being a member on this site, you can ask questions and find out what it takes to correct your mistakes. I checked out the settings on a few of the successful shots that were posted and corrected mine on my second attempt. I posted my second attempt in the Viewfinder forum but below is a copy of that after changing the settings, Jeff
