Speaking of encroaching on Canon's turf, Sony turns up its nose at the 12 MP full-frame Canon 5D DSLR with their new W200, a 12.1 MP point-and-shoot. Anyone paying attention to the megapixel wars knew that this day was just a matter of time. Yes of course the photosites are bigger and better on the DSLR but you gotta give credit to Sony for keeping the heat on–they are churning out new models almost as fast as Canon.
Coming down from the W200, Sony's two other new W-series models are 8 MP and 7.2 MP, respectively.
All three are spec'd with the usual Sony goodies: Super SteadyShot image stabilization, Face Detection, HDTV output, sensitivity up to ISO 3200, Bionz processing engine, 2.5 inch LCD, and Carl Z. "in da glass house." Clearly, Sony's got the gas on high...
The DSC-W200 ships in May for about $400. The DSC-W90 arrives in March around $300 and comes in black and silver. The DSC-W80 also arrives in March around $250 and comes in pink, white, black and silver.
