Olympus has heard the world wondering about the long, long overdue successor to their popular E-1. By popular I don't mean units sold, I mean a camera that working photographers speak highly of amongst themselves. Well, here it is, sort of...
Just a little editorializing: It would have been nice to see this unit brightly lit up and given a pedestal. I suppose there are high hopes for this machine and in fact I wanted to see what Olympus was offering before I purchased my Pentax K10D. But, it was not to be.
There isn't anything for scale in this shot, but this body and grip combo feels pretty large. Some compare its size to a D200 and I think the old Canon EOS 3 film body+grip is comparable in size too. It was my impression that the 4/3 format was supposed to make for smaller cameras, but size is not necessarily a necessary feature (although I tend to prefer smaller cameras).
Finally, the delivery date is still unknown. We'll meet with Olympus and see if we get more we can share with you here.
