As if the halo around the Kodak film rep doesn't say enough.
Scott DiSabato is a pretty cool guy. In an industry full of snobbery and pretense, Scott is a breath of fresh air. He is the Marketing Manager for Professional Film at Kodak. Scott gave me a tour of Kodak's current line of film, which still ranges from classics like TMax and Tri-X, to the newer slide films like E100 G. We discuss Kodak's role in the film market and their attitude toward film. Scott tells me about Kodak just recently reworking the emulsions of their Portra line in both NC and VC 160 and 400 speeds. The film bases are reworked to make scanning easier. The VC is a tad contrastier and the NC is much the same, with perhaps a slightly truer color pallet. At this point I am already impressed by Scott and Kodak's commitment to film, and not just 35mm but 120, 220, and sheet films as well. That's when Scott reveals that there will be 2 new Kodak films released later this year. I balk at this, shocked that Kodak would be releasing new films in the light of the broad industry switch to digital! I am not given any further details, but my curiosity is peaked. Needless to say, Kodak is still in the film game, and swinging for the fences. I left very impressed by the whole experience. What can I say, except perhaps I am witnessing the resurrection of film!
