To my opinion photoshop and other similar programms are for designers. As for me I use online editors, for example loonapix.com. It doesn't demand skills and knowledge.

Re: Which software to buy? need advice

I currently use Photoshop at work and mostly use the polygonal lasso, wand and brush to cut out backgrounds. Does anyone know of a quicker simpler tool? (doesn't have to be in Photoshop as we're looking at trying new software)

Why buy? Did you already tested some of the free and open source tools available?
I have been using GIMP for a long time and it covers 90% of my needs. It lacks a few good features like Lab and CMYK color mode, or smart objects, but it is really good for most needs.

Honestly, Its not the best and most detailed photoshop, but it is free and can produce great results. Its Adobe Photoshop for iOS devices. I love it.

I think it depends a lot on budget. I've been using Corel PaintShop Pro for a while, but I'm only currently on PaintShop Pro X2 (now they have released the x8 version). It's been very good for simple stuff (and not so simple). Photoshop is the top for photo editing, I think, but out of my budget for now.

Gee, I wonder if the OP really cares what someone uses at this point. The OP hasn't been around here since 2012.

I bought PanoEdit to stitch panoramas on my Mac. It's pretty simple and works fine

it depends on your needs and budget. There are some free online tools available, such as GIMP or PIXLR. In case you are ready to spend some money on the necessary stuff, you may try popular software.
As for me, I've got an experience of working with Photoshop and Luminar. Both are good. You may have a look and choose what is more suitable for your tasks. FYI

The artistic Cloud version is not any totally different from the absolutely purchased version. In fact, within the interim here I upgraded to the total suite and is sort of a dream come back true!

Your use case would be trivially handled by Photoshop CC.

As others have mentioned, there is no best software. Which is also the reason why there are many options on the market for you to choose from.

The popular ones have already been mentioned. Most software offers free trial for you to decide if you like them. Some requires you to pay a subscription and some (or should I say most) requires only a one time payment. Each has it's own advantages and disadvantages.

Personally, I use Lightroom and Photoshop for organizing and post-processing. It suits me and I'm happy

Take pictures of products should always be from one angle and distance. To fix the distance it is best to use a tripod (of course, and a professional camera). How to process photos for an online store? Today we all have at least a superficial idea of working with graphic editors such as Lightroom, Gimp, Picasa, Adobe Photoshop, ACDSee, etc. More information here https://thinkmobiles.com/blog/best-shopify-development-companies/

There are too may online tools are available and also many paid software for any image editing task. First of all you have to find out that in which purpose you are going to be use this.
Personally I suggest you to use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom for any kind of image or phoot ediitng task, because of it's user friendly and perfection.

As far as I know, many of you use really cool programs that are definitely worth buying, and many use the PDF format, because it is really convenient. So, I want to combine business with pleasure and provide you with an excellent version of the program from the famous company Movavi, which is not only free, but also contains useful tips when working with it. It's about https://pdf.movavi.com/how-to-rotate-pdf-files.html. What are its main advantages:
    PDF creation from scratch
Different PDF-editing modes (4-in-1 page arrangement,
    text editing, and object editing)
    Ready-to-use legal form templates
    Electronic signature solutions
One-click file export and print output.
As for me - nothing more!
