Slideshow of RAW images

I shoot mostly in RAW with Nikon D700.use windows 7 and have installed a codec to view the RAW thumbnails. This works fine, and I can right click on files and do a preview or slide show.The problem is .. after I have adjusted the images in CS5 raw editor, I do not see the adjusted images when I do a preview or slide show. I still see the default settings. In the CS5 raw editor preferences I have opted to save the settings in camera raw database instead of xmp sidecar, but it doesn't matter which option I choose, neither one shows the adjusted images. Does anyone have a suggestion as to why this is ??

Sounds like windows is not refreshing the images each time they load, working from a cashed version instead. In Adobe Bridge, you get past this by going to VIEW/REFRESH or simply hitting F5 once the images you want refreshed have been selected, and it updates to the latest changes. Not sure about windows 7, but I'd look for a similar option if you don't want to use bridge after making adjustments in Adobe Camera Raw.

Thanks for that, Mate. Bridge has always shown the changes, perfectly, but for some reason when I do a slide show of the images they do not appear as sharp as when I do it in windows, which is why I prefer to use windows. I tried your suggestion of refreshing but to no avail

It's because your CS is not actually changing the original image data at that stage. What it's doing is saving the metadata settings as a recipe in CS5 and when you view the image with CS, bridge etc. it shows your edits because Adobe Bridge, Camera Raw, and Lightroom all use the XMP standard for storing metadata, so each application can read metadata changes made in the others. However when you view it with another program like windows photo gallery, those changes aren't recognized and it just shows you the original RAW data.

The only way I have found to work around this "thusfar" is to convert them to jpg's after I'm done editing. This saves the metadata as part of the file and windows photo gallery will recognize the changes. You still have your original RAW to make changes to, just think of the jpg. as a print.

That will also make your slideshow run smoother as the windows media center/windows photo gallery deals with jpg's better than it does the RAW.

I'm sure there's another way, but that's all I got for ya!

Thanks Bert. It seems I have been doing all the right things, as that is what I have been doing .. making the adjustments in raw then saving to jpg and watching slide show in windows. I reckoned the problem might be in how the xmp files work and was trying to find out if windows could read these files. Looks like I'll just have to live with it. Thanks anyway
