The short answer to your question is yes, there are several ways to do exactly that. Photoshop provides a variety of methods for making selections, which is the first step in your process.

However, which method is best for any given situation depends largely on several different factors within the image itself, and should be done on a case-by-case basis. But, you never know. We might get lucky and find an easy method that works for all of them. But, as Scott suggests, we'd have to see 3 or 4 sample images to find out.
