Photomatix 4.0 available for HDR shooters

I just installed the newest version of Photomatix and I must say, I really like it. I have only created 1 HDR image with it so far but I really like the new interface with the multiple preset thumbnails. It also seems a lot faster than version 3. Here is a sample of an image I created using 7 exposures. I choose the preset I liked the most and then tweaked it from there.

If you have a licensed copy of Photomatix 3.0 the upgrade is free!

Re: Photomatix 4.0 available for HDR shooters

I have a question on the use of Photomatix - For the single shot pseudo-HDR, it needs the RAW file to pull out the dynamic range data above and below what it would normally show, correct? So if I 'send' the file from Lightroom, LR will first render the RAW and send the tiff to Photomatix, correct? Photomatix doesn't have the extra data to do the pseudo-HDR, correct? - Terry

Re: Photomatix 4.0 available for HDR shooters

When I have created HDR images from a single RAW file in the past, I would first triple process the RAW file to give me 3 different exposures. Then I would use those 3 files to create my HDR image.

You don't have to do this though. Photomatix will open you RAW file for you. Just go to File > Open and choose the RAW file you want. It will open in a window and give you the same tone mapping sliders that you would get if you used multiple images to create the HDR. This screen shot shows what it looks like in version 4.0.

Awesome! I just checked for updates the other day and wouldn't have known about this otherwise.

    Terry,

The first image is straight out of the camera. The second is the same RAW image, opened and processed through Photomatix Pro 4.0 using one of the default presets that are included. Hope that helps.
