Lens Correction from ADOBE !

Lens correction from RAW is coming from ADOBE with the release of ACR 6 and Lightroom 3. Lightroom 3 Product manager Tom Hogarty made this somewhat surprise announcement via the Lightroom Journal blog this week. Surprise as in the extent that it will correct optical issues and the new tools to support it.

There's a video (two sources) about the new capability and support tool details that will be available for custom lens profiling and inclusion.

I know this is one feature I am eager to get my hands on, even more than Content Aware fill.

That is GREAT. But honestly, I am really puzzled and a bit pissed that it was never there in LR2.0 A dedicated software for photographers. . .with no lens correction tools. . .

Lightroom has been a work in progress and I suppose we've been spoiled by 20 years of Photoshop incarnations!

Adobe stated at the outset that LR was a new direction and with the modular characteristics they could respond to user feedback and requests more easily. They are getting there.

The 'vignetting' tool was a beginning to fix flare and drop off with any lens that displayed that kind of problem, but I agree it and the CA tools only went so far.

If the LR2 was any indication upon its final release, Adobe may have another surprise or two in store with the 'real' version of LR3. I'd just like to have had this capability to play with in the beta version.
