    Infrared processing

I saw some infrared photographs that had been processed by some means or another and I was fascinated by them. I have dabbled in i.r and have taken quite a number of pictures but they all turn out with a pale red haze unless I set my camera on B/W mode. When taking infrared the camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 and the filter is a Hoya R72.
I have tried to process my i.r using Photoshop elements 7 but with little success. The question now is,is my lack of success due to my ineptitude or do I have to upgrade my Photoshop.

    Re: Infrared processing

Glen - I didn't even know that it was possible to get an IR effect w/ digital cameras until reading this and doing a little fishing around. I just learned something, that it is possible. I think the pale red haze you are seeing may be part of the effect that one normally sees with IR color photography: see the following link for specific info -

You'll see color and B&W there, and the colors are indeed shifted about w/ color photography. Trying to PP those colors out in Photoshop sounds like a bit of a chore .. but you can probably get something decent if you keep trying.

    Re: Infrared processing

    GB1,
Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. I have looked at the site suggested by you and have taken copious notes for future reference. Meanwhile I have purchased a new copy of Photoshop CS4 in the hope that it will improve my processing opportunities,if not my abilities.
