    Free editing software

    Hello everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone knows of some decent editing software that I don't have to shell out any $$ for. I plan to pick up Photoshop elements at some point but cash is a bit short right now so it'll be a while. I just downloaded RawTherapee but have yet to try it out.

A little background to let you know what I might want for software. I'm shooting a Canon EOS Rebel XS. I shoot in Raw + JPG all the time. So I want to be able to do something with that RAW capture from time to time. I also want to be able to do some basic editing, obviously cropping is a must, but also saturation, white balance and other things like that would be awful nice.

Let me know if you know of any freeware out there that will do some or all of what I'm looking for. Thanks!!

Maybe you should take a look at one called GIMP. Its the one I mostly use and has almost all the features PS has...and its completely free.

Take a look at PAINT.NET which has a good plug-in development community.
It's slowly (with add-ons) getting towards a full editor, you need add-ons to do colour correction etc, but the basic layered editor is simple to use.

I always wanted to give gimp a try. I read up on it some and it looks very much like a PS knockoff. I always wondered did a disgruntled employee of Adobe put it out.
