    Copyright symbol?

I'm trying to add a copyright symbol to some photos in photoshop and I can't figure out how to do it. I tried using the text tool and typing alt+0169 but that's not doing it.

    Any ideas?

If you have access to the Symbol table from the menus, you can choose it directly.

What version of PS are you using? There is a Custom Shape tool in the tool bar on CS3 & 4 but I'm not sure about earlier versions or Elements. Click on the Custom Shape tool, then in the Shape drop down menu at the top of PS choose the symbol you want.

    Re: Copyright symbol?

Here's something embarassing to admit. I don't know what version of PS I have. It just says Adobe Photoshop CS. I looked all over the place and can't find a shapes tool.

I'm about to just grab a copyright symbol from somewhere and start sticking it on my pictures.

Are you sure the text font size is right? And the font?

In any event, copyright watermarks are pointless - if you are putting them up on the web, then the end user can do very little with a web resolution image anyway. That, and watermarks are easy to get rid of.

I usually just highlight the symbol from a website and copy/paste it into Photoshop. Like this:

Not going to get into a big thing here, but copyright attorneys will tell you to provide "notice" simply embedding it in the metadata is not sufficient notice. It must be:
    1. visible
    2. include year
    3. "©" symbol - "(c)" is NOT acceptable
    4. and name of person or entity

Without notice, it's MUCH more difficult to defend a copyright, with it - the case is a slam dunk, especially if they remove it later.

On top of that in the UK you need to include "all rights reserved" or whatever you are prepared for the user to use it for in the metadata and on the image.
