    Using software to evaluate images

Ultimately it depends if someone can define the "rules" of a good photograph.

Re: Using software to evaluate images

how one can define something like that?
the best definition would be "it depends" as one photo gat be great in one application and totally suck in another. there is a set of criteria, which a good photograph should satisfy, but it is rather broad and again, it depends......

Their usefuless also depends on their terms of use, whether they try to acquire any rights to the photos you upload to them ...

Interesting that the black and whites score lower than color. I agree with Irakly, that it's way too subjective with an infinite set of variables in play to muck up the results.

Re: Using software to evaluate images

Algorithms are programmed by people. Someone (or probably several someones by committee) decided what rules this software was going to use to assess the images. Since there was some sort of bias by the designers on what is considered "good," it's still working off a subjective standard.

And unlike a human judge, it can't actually access if breaking from the standard it was programmed to use might actually enhance a photo and make it better in certain circumstances.
