I was in Detroit on business and had the afternoon free today. I visited the Detroit Institute of Art and made a beeline for the photography section.
I was impressed. The current selection (I get the impression that they rotate photos in and out from the permanent collection?) is mostly portraits of artists and artist's muses. I was surprised at some of the portraits that I had never seen - such as Berenice Abbot's portrait of Atget. I was reminded of names that I had faded from my memory, such as Karsh.
And who knew that Weston was a crazy old cat guy?!?! Imogen Cunningham's portrait of him was with several cats, and the label indicated that he had 23!
