Better Picture Making / Making Art through Pictures (photos)

First I should say hello. I'm new here. I'm also new to photography (or at least serious photography.) I got my first DSLR in May of this year and have been busy learning how to use it. Just recently I started thinking about photography as picture making/art. This link really helped me understand and improve my picture making skills (from a non techincal aspect). I thought is might be of interest on this particular message board. Making Pictures by Ben Lifson
Just some background about Ben Lifson (if you don't know of him already). He is a well respected art critic, photographer and writer. There is more about him on the website.

Hope it's OK to post this here and that you enjoy reading it as much as I did.

    Hello mmedlyn,

Welcome to Photography Review! I haven't been here long myself. If you stick around you will soon learn that this website is full of very knowledgable and helpful people.

Thanks for posting this link. I think this is the perfect place for it. I have only skimmed it so far, but I look forward to reading more when I have time. I was just looking for this kind of information a few days ago, without much luck.

    Melissa-
I looked at your blog and your Nov. 16 Picture of the Day is Magic! It's wonderful. I'm not really sure what's going on, but it doesn't evem really matter. The light and scene and look on her face are so great and speak on a primal level. That's a great photo.

Thanks for posting the link. I haven't looked at it yet and confess I was checking to make sure it wasn't spam. But it looks legit and I have a feeling, from the URL, that it will be useful and interesting when I do look at it.

Hope you'll stick around to share and grow with us. We can always use more passionate and creative photographers here. From the look of your blog, you're one of us, even though you just arrived

Thank you for the warm welcome and the compliment! I had to laugh (and blush) when I looked back at that photo I hadn't thought that much of it the time but I enjoy it now. Not sure my daughter appreciates me calling her a cheeseball though.

Glad the link is OK to post. I've really enjoyed reading it and I confess to going back again and again to reread it. It's very meaty and has lots of information.

So far I really like it here. I hope to keep sharing and learning here!
