March project...the four elements
Borrowing from the ideas thread. Cara's suggestion.
Earth, air, fire, water!
Individually or together as pairs, trios, or all of them if you can do it.
Have fun!

Re: March project...the four elements
If anyone's interested, the Tarot representations of the four elements, might give some extra ideas:
Swords: Air, representation of intellect
Cups: Water, representation of emotion
Staves/Wands: Fire, representation of passions/energy
Coins/Disks/Pentacles: Earth, representation of the physical/material
Hrmmm....
Deer getting some good air--

Birds are typically a representation of air

It is all your fault for which I will blame any disasters. If it turns out great then I'll take the credit. Share and share alike I always say.
I corrected the spelling in original post.

Cara - all your images are very nice. But I LOVE this one! Absolutely stunning! What camera/lens did you use? The XSi and 55-250? Great job.

Re: March project...the four elements
Thanks Liz :) I think I titled that one "Watch for Falling Nuthatches"
It was the XSi and the Canon 300mm f/4 L IS. It's definitely a lucky shot.I was taking shots of him on the feeder when he dropped like this and flew away. I'd say a split second before this shot he was still on the feeder, and a split second after this he was already spreading his wings.

That's an awesome lens! No wonder the bokeh is so smooth - and the bird and feeder so sharp. Great capture!

LOL, okay, now I remember why I shoot wildlife... I suck at setting up shots...
Anyway, decided to play around with my two favorite tarot decks and try and make a shot for this. Threw my sheet over the and pillows and tried to arrange some cards, stuck the reading lamp on and put my nifty fifty on the the camera. Played around with some creative development in lightroom.
As I mentioned earlier, the each of the four minor arcana suits in Tarot represent one of the elements- Swords: Air, Circles: Earth, Cups: Water, Staves: Fire
1. Central part of this set up is one card from each minor arcana suit (Cups, Circles, Swords, and Staves), crossed in the center by The World.
2,3,4 and 5,- My other deck. Once again, central four cards from each suit. I tried to pick cards that represented the element in them well.
It was a better idea than it turned out I think, LOL. :P

Definitely do it, you're shots will be a lot better than mine I'm sure!

LOL, I guess I'm not a passionate soul :p. My thought with mating was physical world/reproduction. What can I say? I think like an engineer.

Yes, bought it in France - it's based on the Roger Zelazny Amber series of 9 books.

Loving these great project ideas.
I'm going to give this a go one element at a time I think, starting with Earth.

Re: March project...the four elements
Great topic. I wasn't sure what to do with this one...I'm still not. I have been on a lightbox kick lately so I thought I would try and add the 4 elements to it. I wasn't happy with the original so I mirrored it in PS. It's a little more dark than I had planned...
I Only burned one of my lightboxes (Corona Box) to the ground in the process, Good thing I had a couple more to spare.:D

Re: March project...the four elements
yeah, not having much luck with this one. Unless Earth, Wind and Fire come rolling through town on tour, I doubt if I will get a shot in here ;)

Re: March project...the four elements
The volunteers were out clearing invasive buckthorn on Sunday at the nature center.

Not a fire? What do you call it?
Cannuk, I think you got wind and earth with those dunes. Maybe water and earth with the snow one.
I realize this one is a real challenge, especially getting all four in one shot. I keep trying to come up with something and have failed.

I think the sun is a traditional representation of fire. Even if its not a literal one. :)

No Tarot flavour here - but I think we have all four including the "air that I breathe" - as well as the anticipation of a good lunch from the "potjie" (3 legged pot)

Thank you Frog :D
I took some maternity pictures yesterday ...
A lovely lady with a beautiful baby belly standing on the "EARTH" outside, in the fresh "AIR", with "FIRE" in the sky and "WATER" in the background.
