Re: August Project - Cars
Since I'm a slow film shooter, I can never seem to get new shots in here on time. I'll keep trying for something new, but here's an old one just in case. :)

Re: August Project - Cars
Oh I'm going to enjoy playing with this theme :)
Now, which of my 3 cars shall I use?
The 'project' in the back garden?
Still on three wheels, with dented safety cell and rusty chassis?
The 'leakster' in the drive?
5 years old and 122000 miles, but has more of a carbon slick than a footprint :(
The city car?
My new toy, still trying it out for economy - 67mpg so far.
Or maybe some race cars :)

Re: August Project - Cars
There's a car show in town tomorrow and that's when I'm going to go shoot the 4x4s off-roading. Oh well! I guess they count as cars.

Re: August Project - Cars
Great topic - even though I'm not a car person! Having said that, a few months ago while at the Jersey Shore, there were a few old cars parked along the way......I think they were preparing for a car show. So I shot these.....first time using the G9. There were quite a few cars - wish I had shot a few more. You can see another car in the background on the 2nd one. BTW, I know nothing about the specific cars. :confused5:

From Goodwood Festival of Speed, a great weekend out !
I admit the photo of the Esprit from the Bond film wasn't just about the car :)

Great project Alison :D
->My favorite "Muscle" car of all time. Ultra rare '66 Plymouth Satellite 426 HEMI. Respect.
I agree Frog...A Jeep is not a car...but it will go anywhere, Trucks are here to stay...Hahaha. It's rare to see my Jeep this clean. With all the drought, forest fires in Cali.' this summer it has seen very little mud / off road. :O)

Re: August Project - Cars
Some cool cars. Like Paul (SmartWombat) I can have some serious fun with this topic!
Let's start with Old & New! The Smart was the special invited guest at this show. In the U.S. you pretty much have to order these, can do it over the Internet! Then delivery is . . . later. The other is a 1931 Ford Model A Coupe.

SMART and MODEL A
One more for now. Rare, but I've seen it several times and know of at least one other running and roadable version. A Speedwell on the lawn.

SPEEDWELL
A few upcoming attractions (they're in the gallery mostly now).
I've got Ferrari Mondial photos in a separate post in the Viewfinder. I've been sort of using those shots as selections to play with in new software.
There's some Caddies, Packards and surprise or two and yes . . .
I'm going to post a Mystery Car. One of the rarest Marque's I know about that actually were sold to the public. I had only seen pieces of one and photos until two days ago! For me that's rare.

Even your car photos have that special Greg McCary flavor. If I didn't know who shot this and had to guess, I'd say you. You have your own distinct flavor, that I am certainly a fan of.
Interesting side note on what I just said above. I was looking through some photos I took recently and came upon one, where my initial reaction was, "wow what a poor imitation of a Greg McCary". I think thats a sign that II spend too much time on PR.
Nice work!!

A few more to keep it alive.
Oh yeah, we got the results,
Smart Roadster team was 3rd behind Lotus and Caterham (a Lotus 7 derivative).
Not bad result.
But next time ... I won't have to drive my car home and can go faster <evil grin>

Re: August Project - Cars
Old School, Tim, G'day.
I shot the image in RAW at 100 ISO. The only filter on the lens was a clear UV. I originally took the shot to calibrate the shadow detail of black objects, with my new Canon.
The image is a pseudo HDR . I used one exposure which was an 'averaged' light reading.
The exposure was 'Tone Mapped' in the Photomatix programme, gaining luminosity in the shadows using the 'Detail Enhancer's' range of functions, I think this has worked well.
I'm delighted with the overall quality of the image, showing maximum detail in the deep shadows and the black car has worked very well revealing many blemishes in the paint, and the sky has worked.
I used Canon's 'original' ArcSoft program, rather than Photoshop (which I find confusing and awkward) to make small tweaks to the overall colours, post Photomatix. All-in-all an image like that takes about an hour to produce from downloading because I experiment and play around a lot ... and I tweak the colours and shadow values, heaps.
Warren.

Mystery Car
I meant to get this posted before now. Not an expensive car originally (hint hint hint), American made, production came to an abrupt halt for business reasons ( hint hint hint ), there are three clues visible in the photo that might point the afficinado in the right direction. Yes, they look remarkably like another car. And with good reason (the final hint).
Good luck!

Re: August Project - Cars
Huh, if it wasn't American I'd go for something like a Beauford kit car which is based on a mini.

All Great Shots, heres two of a "Bugatti Veyron", only about 15 of these made, they fetch around 2.1 mio. Euro (US$3.3 mio.). Top speed 407 kph (252 mph). This one here in polished metal. Picture taken in Geneva, Switzerland.
