    Windows XP x64 a problem?

Hi everyone, I have a Canon PowerShot A40. Ever since I upgraded my computer to a 64-bit version of Windows, I can't connect my camera. When I download the driver from Canon and try to install, it tells me that the driver can't be located. Please help! I need to be able to use my camera again!

Have you checked with Canon via email?
Did your USB drivers install correctly? (or are the ports 'active')

How about a card reader? Quick and reliable alternative, if the USB or Firewire ports are functional.

A 64-bit OS requires 64-bit drivers. These 64-bit drivers are few and far between as almost no one uses 64-bit OS. This will be far from the only driver that fails.

There is absolutely no benefit to using a 64-bit OS for all but a rare few users with specialized software. Even a lot of 64-bit applications are just warmed over 32-bit versions. My recommendation is to go back to 32-bit. If not, for this particular case, find a card reader that specifically says its compatible with 64-bit.

i couldn't agree more. 64-bit is a waste on the desktop, and even the machines that are sold as 64-bit are 32-bit with 64-bit subsystem bolted on.

Unless you're running a server or doing something where you need more than 4 gb of addressable RAM, there is no need to play with Windows XP 64. Ditch it and go back to regular windows.
