    Angry Uhoh... First Lightroom Issue

Well, it was bound to happen eventually. Went to start up Lightroom and it just kept locking up on me. Tried clearing out my memory/temp files and defragging... no luck. Finally had to go in and delete the folder of today's shots in order to get Lightroom to open. I'm guessing something in the catalog for today's shots or one of today's shots themselves got corrupted??? My catalog as of today was only about 1600 shots. Anyone else had problems similar to this? Luckily I have back-ups of the originals from today :mad2:

I think Lightroom places the database, on PCs, in the My Documents\My Pictures folder as "Lightroom Database.lrdb". (I'm sure you can just search for "Lightroom Database" on the Mac). If you find that file and rename it, Lightroom will prompt you to locate or create a new library when you start it up. Select the library copy you made on your last library backup and it should open right up. Reimport, in place, the folders you're missing and you should be good to go.

You are backing up your library, right?

Hi Ken, thanks for chiming in. You are correct, as a default it saves the database in the My Pictures folder. And yes, I back up my library ...LOL I have my database set to back up every start up and back up my full library weekly. Unfortunately with today's situation, this back-up did no good for todays shots since the back-up got done before today's shots were imported. Not that any catalog backup would have helped much as it would even start fully open up before I would get a system error and it would close. I redownloaded 1.1 again just in case but, took a chance and went into my Library and deleted today's shots thinking that could have been the problem. Something had to have gotten corrupted with the database with reading the last Tiff I was working on. Once the Tiff file was deleted, there was nothing that needed to be read and Lightroom would open.

I hope that all made sense...LOL Sipping some brandy now. Sounded right in my head as I was typing it out...LOL

Did you try renaming the db before launching Lightroom? It should have prompted you if you did. Regardless, all's well that ends well.

As I was responding earlier, I did think about the backup process and it does kinda stink. If your db gets corrupted before your next backup you've lost everything you just worked on. It should prompt you on exit instead. I think I'm going to get in the habit of exiting then reopening just to run the backup. I like the brandy sipping part of your workflow, too!

No I didn't try renaming it. I wonder if that might have helped. The back-up process is the one thing that has me scratching my head with this program. How retard is it to back up in the beginning and not when you are finished? Is there even a way to do the back-up while working or before you close out?

I highly recommend adding the brandy sipping to any work flow, though make sure you do all of your sharpening BEFORE you start sipping...LOL

No way to manually kick off the backup at all that I can find other than setting it to happen at every start and then restarting the app. Pretty lame for an otherwise very well done app. But.... it is the first gen. I expect version 2 will have these kinks worked out. I hope.
