Scanner choice for capturing 4" X 6" positives

    Hi All -

I need a little advice on which scanner to purchase that will enable me to scan multiple
4" X 6" positives at decent to high quality settings without too much trouble. I've seen ads for and heard about some HP models that come with attachments that allow you stack positives and load them automatically, but I was never really sure how well these worked. I realize that this isn't the best way to go about archiving, but I don't have access to the negatives for these pics. Has anyone had any luck with moderately priced (US $150 to $350) scanners? Thanks for any and all help!

I'm confused by 4 x 6 positives. I looked into this awhile back when I was considering a 4x5 large format camera (very common LF size). LF comes in many sizes but I've never seen 4x6. To clarify, you do mean positive, as in transparency (basically a big slide), correct?

The Epson 4990 is a little more than you're looking to spend but it scans up to 8x10 positives and does it very well. To improve in scan quality you'd have to spend ten times that amount (or more) for something like an Imacon scanner.

Sorry..I think I'm using the wrong terminology entirely as I'm kind of new to all this. What I meant by "4x6 positives" was 4X6 prints. I have boxes and boxes of these and need some way to archive them digitally. I had thought the best way to do this was to investigate and possibly purchase one the newer flatbed scanners that has a 4X6 print loader built into it's top. Sorry for the confusion but I do appreciate the reply as well as any suggestions you may have about my *actual* issue, now that I've got that sorted out....
