Putting edited Pics back in Carema?

I've been trying to do this all day but can't get it to work.

What I want to do is modify my pictures with Photoshop and then put them back in the camera, I'd also like to this with video, is it impossible?

I have an Canon S80 and when I try to put a photo back in the camera it tells me that the photo was either not taken with a Canon camera or had been modified and cannot be put back in the camera. If I put them in my SD card they won't show up on the camera's LCD.

    Anyway to do this.

Try using a card reader to put the images back on the memory card. Put the card back in the camera and you should be able to see them. Never tried it, but I have shot with my Fuji and Nikon on the same card and had no problems (generally not a good idea to do this without reformatting).

Sounds like the Canon camera is looking in the image information to see if it's been taken with the camera or not.
The camera is not as sophisticated as your PC, and if you have resized the image, cropped it maybe, then it's likely the camers wil ignore the image so that it doesn't crash the software and lock up the whole darn thing.

Whether you copy using a card reader or using the camera and interface cable it'll porbably do the same thing, and if it was goign to work at all I'd expect more success using the interface cable as that's going through the camera's processor.

I haven't had any success with edited images on my Minolta A1 and A2, or my wife's Panasonic FZ25. That's why I have a laptop, or a phototainer with me to show photos.

Re: Putting edited Pics back in Carema?

You have to use the Canon Software appropriate to your camera or have the correct drivers loaded into the editing software you use.

As an example many of the Canon p/s cameras use Zoom Browser as the included up/down load and organizational utilitly. The actual program that up/down loads the image files is "Camera Window". Canons need the index/database file generated for a series of images for the DIGIC processor (all versions) to read them in the camera as something other than unavailable space or as a thumbnail.

On a Windows XP machine when you click on the "start" button, and call up "All Programs" you should have "Canon Utililties" as an option. Under that should be several additional choices including a 'browser" or other file utility. Then select the images you want from your hard drive (multiple choices are allowed) and then use the "camera window" or upload feature to send the file(s) back to the camera or via a card reader to the flash card.

Different versions of the software and cameras work a little differently, but the help files and the manuals will get the result of having files returned to the camera. Then of course it can be plugged into something else for viewing (like a television or monitor) or just used for a portable slide show.

The Canon software needs to "tag" and "resize" the files to standard dimensions (for your camera) prior to the camera recognizing the reloaded images.

If you still have difficultly let us know and we will dig up some more answers. I would give you more detailed exact step-by-step directions except I do not know exactly which software, including version, you are using. Best wishes and give us a status report if you wish!

I got the ZoomBrowser Part, but how do I convert the images to something that the camera will read. I can't find an option that will send the pictures to the camera, and if I do it from camera windows it still says that the pic was not taken with a Canon or was modifed since it was taken.

Re: Putting edited Pics back in Carema?

First, is your computer recognizing that the camera or memory is plugged in when you have Zoom Browser launched? If you go to the Camera and Memory Card window, does it "see" one or the other or both?

If not, without ZB being open, connect your camera to the computer via the USB cable, turn on the camera and let Windows auto-detect it and launch Zoom Browser. If ZB does not launch, and something else does, then go ahead and start ZB.

[The camera directly connected via the USB cable is the first best option as a starting point. The memory card reader/writers will sometimes not operate the same way or require an additional step or option to be set.]

From the preview screen in ZB select your images to reload, even Select All, and the go to the Camera menu or the Camera & Memory Card tab and select Upload. A dialog will appear for each file (or you can select "all files" in checkbox).

The file(s) will then upload to the camera.

Use the AC adapter to power the camera as this can take some time. If the camera cannot be run from the charger you have (some of these have a small separate battery charger) be sure that your battery is fully charged before starting this procedure.

IF it sort of works, but not really, then format your card in the camera prior to starting.

If this does not work at all, you may want to unload and reinstall Zoom Browser.

Check your manual for the Canon website and the right URL to go get the latest version of Zoom for your camera, really a driver set.

The Canon manual for software will have similar instuctions for this procedure if it is supported. If the manual mentions reloading, and there is still a problem, the most likely problem is software incorrectly/incompletely installed or the wrong version.

Let me know how this works! You might want to post the exact steps you are using and from that perhaps we can find what is not working correctly.

Good luck (I'll be back to check this late this pm).

Re: Putting edited Pics back in Carema?

    Uh-oh.

I have looked through (admittedly quickly) the .PDF manuals from Canon for the S80 and so far I am coming up empty. I cannot believe they've dumped this option on this version of the camera! They did remove RAW from the camera and added a bunch of Styles and the cool grid and live histogram, but this is an external software feature!

You might want to even email Canon and see if this is supported in ANOTHER software package.

All the parts are there and it does have advanced slide show features in the camera! One other thing to check, under the HELP menu should be the About or Version which will tell all about the drivers installed (unless they've muted that too!) and one should be called Upload and followed by a 5.x.x numeric driver release number.

I have become real curious as I've thought about this camera even without the RAW capability. With any luck at all I'll have some time this evening to go through the manual I've downloaded and see if anything pop out as to how or if this is done.

Do try email to Canon and check to be sure that you have the latest versions of everything. The screen capture you've included looks suspiciously underfeatured and I'm not seeing a couple of things that the manuals I've loaded indicate are there, or certainly in a different format.

Let me know if you hear or discover anything. PM if you wish but it may take me some time to get back to you as this has become a busy few days in a row!! I'll keep researching this also.

Re: Putting edited Pics back in Carema?

I called Canon and the rep told me that It doesn't have this feature because the camera uses it's own type of jpeg, and the firmware only reads that type of jpeg, so that means that if someone can hack the firmware it might work. I've tried using software to restore all the Exif info on the modified pic and it still din't work.

I do still recommend the camera, it has so many features and takes great pics, all the controls can be manually set, and while RAW wo9uld be great it isn't really needed, If you're good at photoshop you can modify the pics and get just as good results as with RAW. It's like an Ipod, the front of the camera scratches easily and attracts fingerprints and dust like you wouldn't believe.

It would be great to find a solution to this problem, but it's just a minor issue since I use it to shoot HDRI's. Can anyone hack the firmware?
