Hi,

I've notice that when I am working with a high res image file (300 dpi) in photoshop, that some parts of the image appear jagged or pixilated. Is this because the resolution is too hight to be properly displayed. will this affect printing?

A 300 DPI image is not necessarily a high resolution image, when it comes to monitor displays, DPI is totally irrelevant. It only comes into play when printing.

The jaggies you're seeing is because you're viewing the image at a zoom level that is difficult to interpolate. When not viewing the image at 100%, PS does best at interpolating even zoom levels, 25%, 50%, 75%. If you're at an odd zoom level (81.87 for example) then it will be more difficult to calculate a smooth representation and it will look jaggy. The only time you ever have to worry about it is if it still looks jaggy at 100%. The attached image shows where the window shows the zoom level.

But remember, DPI has NOTHING to do with on-screen display, and does not mean an image is, or isn't, high resolution.
