photo viewing by laptop

20D you need a USB cable, and the Canon capture program that comes in the camera box.
It works nicely, but the image is not stored in the camera and is written direct to the computer.
That means it's a little slow saving.
No problem for portraits.

How it's packaged depends which version of the software you have.
I think later versions may shop with newer software than mine, and use CameraWindow for the capture.
Check your software CDs in the camera box for details.

The EOS capture software is a plug-in for the Digital Professional software that should have come with the camera. I've played with it a little. Seems like it would be great in a studio setting.

well, next coming month I m going to shoot some what about a 100 fold at the local taiwondo school here intown and I m wonder if I can just viewing the pic as I go with out saving it to laptop. and as SmartWombat saying it kinda slow on saving to laptop so, in your meanning how slow are you talking about. the photo shoot I m doing is more like posing shot than action shots. and can I get that USB cable at B&H though? thank you for reply...friends

If you are posing the people for the shots the capture software will be fine.

You can trip the shutter with the software.

You cannot compose the shot through the laptop. You still have to look through the camera to see the shot before it is taken.

Speed wise it is a little slower then writing to the card but not bad. If you are posing the students it won't be bad.

The cable that came with your camera to connect it to your computer is the one you need for this. If you don't have it you can get it at any local camera shop, electronics store (Besy Buy, Circuit City, etc..) or also online from places like B&H. However those cables tend to be a little on the short side so you may want to have a USB extension cable just to be safe. You can get those from any of the places above or even WalMart.
