    Need inexpensive laptop ASAP

Hey everyone. My girlfriends brother is being shipped overseas in the next couple of weeks. He has asked us to purchase him an inexpensive laptop to take with him. The only things he has requested that it have is, a basic word processing program (I'm sure that is pretty standard) and a DVD player to help pass the time. I spent months researching my last computer, but I don't have the time for that now, so I'm hoping someone here can help me. His budget is around $600. We found this one at Sears, but we have never heard of this brand befors so we're not sure about it...

I have not seen that brand for years. There are better places and better deals than at sears. Try checking out these: www.outpost.com or www.tigerdirect.com or www.cdw.com. I do have personal problems with all these sites, but that is how their customer service works. So please read and understand their return polices before you buy!

You might want to check out the ads in the Sunday papers. I've seen them for about $600 lately and you have a bigger/better selection.

Also, you might want to check out Costco. If you don't have a membership, it might be worth paying $45 for one to save the money. And the return time is 6 months for computers.

Thanks for the advice Liz and GRF. When I got home tonight, there was a message on the machine saying that he found and ordered a computer today. Looks like we're off the hook.

    Thanks again.
