    Lacie Electron Blue??

Does anyone have any experience with this monitor? I found a used one and was thinking about checking it out. Reviews for this monitor are few and far between, but from what I understand it is certainly a pro caliber monitor.

    Re: Lacie Electron Blue??

How much are they wanting for the monitor?

Any idea of usage? Be sure it doesn't have something burned into the phospors (good idea with any monitor) and be aware that this is a big heavy unit!

Does it come with calibration tools (software, colorimieter) and be sure you get the hood.

LaCie are the Rolls of monitors along with the Sony Artisans.

These rarely get sold I'm surprised it unless it is an old worn unit that won't hold steady or a company has gone out of business.

This 19" monitor was certainly considered the best money could buy for a period of time and I would not hesitate to purchase a used one, if it is in good shape and reasonably (<$600 used plus delivery) priced. If it is to be shipped, have the seller take it to a professional shipper or insure the living daylights out of it.

I would run it on a dedicated (UPS or the like) power supply or at least a regulated outlet to take full advantage of its capabilities.

Any more question please feel free to ask!

Did these come with their own calibration hardware/software? I already have my own (colorvision), but if there was something dedicated for this monitor, that would be sweet.

Will running on a regulated power supply make that much of a difference? I'm assuming it prevents chroma/luminance from drifting due to variation in voltage, is this correct?

I'm actually going to see the monitor in person, I was going to look for burn in and was planning to "center" all adjustments and see how it looked. I figured that would give me an idea if anything was way off and un calibrateable. Any other tips?

    Thanks.

There were packages where the monitor came with a full GretagMacbeth calibration suite. That included the deluxe (adv/pro something I don't remember the exact name) package that included the ability to make printer, paper, and ink profiles as well as calibrate the monitor.

The power supply will additionally (or UPS) prolong the monitor life and stability of your calibration.

There's a built in diagnostic that you should be able to find using the
Scroll and Enter buttons once you enter Setup. It runs a normal sequencing of patterns and one or more later release of the monitor has dispense with one set of voltage/freq checks for a 'hardware confirmation' check. There are two or three variations of the monitor (19") that are very similar but slight differences in labels and what is built in to the firmware. Does the same thing (or so the manuals say) just reports back a bit differently. This also may depend upon what market they were sold in to originally.

Take an image with you that you've looked at a lot, even your screen saver or desktop image and display that and see how it looks.

Good luck and hope you get a bargain. These are great monitors and if you can get a fair price on a used one, you will be glad. Particularly if you print critical work and need to match color!

There was no mention of the GretagMacbeth suite, so I think that's a no go. I know if I was selling a monitor that came with that, I'd be talking it up for sure.

The diagnostic you are referring to is in the actual monitor's menus??

I'm bringing a laptop and Calibug with me, which has a full some diagnostics and a set of NTSC test patterns, which unfortunately I am very familiar with. It also has test patterns specifically for PC monitors, but I need to read up a bit on how to use these. I plan to fully examine this thing before I take oput my wallet.

Well I got it. Mild burn in across the very top, otherwise a seemingly pretty solid monitor. Consistent color and sharpness across the image. Good brightness. Sixty bucks, no calibration package, but it did come with the hood. It was from a small graphic design firm that was moving out of town, they hadn't used it in a few years and it had just been collecting dust. (Which I verified when I cleaned the screen)

I haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet, but tonight I'll calibrate it and degauss it and see how it looks with my PC. I'll even make sure it is pointing east, I've heard these monitors are finicky on which way they point.
