How to work with Color Profiles

    Hi,

I have a question about color profiles.
My monitor was delivered with a color profile. How do/can I use this profile ?

Do I have to select this profile in Photoshop ? I tried this, and when I opened a photo in Photoshop, I got a message that the photo had an other color profile (RGB I believe). Do I have to convert the photo to my monitor's profile ?
And if I do, doesn't that give problems when I send the photo to get prints ?

A lot of questions, I hope someone can clarify it to me.

    Thanks a lot,

    Jeroen

I don't know what type of computer you have but I can explain how I do it on a PC with XP. First go to the control panel from the start menu. Then choose display. Then these steps.

    1. Settings
    2. Click advanced button
    3. then click color management.

from there you should have a place where you can load your profile.
Hope this helps and if not feel free to ask more questions.

    Thank you for your reply.
What I meant with my questions is what profile to use.
My digitial camera(Minolta A1) uses Adobe RGB in the pictures, and on my PC I have a color profile for my monitor.
When I use the RGB profile in Photoshop, the pictures are rather red toned. When I configure Photoshop to use my monitor color profile, the pictures look fine.
Is this the right way to use my monitor's color profile ?
Does this affect the way my photo's get printed at a print shop ? I mean is my color profile stored in the pictures ? Or is it just for displaying it.

Hope I made my wuestion more clear now.

Check to see what color space the lab is using for printing. If they're using sRGB (like almost all of them here in the 'States) then you'd be best to stay in that color space. If your camera has Adobe RGB on it, you should be able to switch it to sRGB if needed.
