    File Transfer on the Run

For extended travels out of the US and away from home, what methods (aside from taking my laptop) are available to transfer RAW files reliably?

I've heard of using IPOD's to do this but will they recognize RAW files? If so, is there a way to verify that they transfered over? I shudder at the thought of erasing my CF cards on the road only to later learn that the transfer was incompete/corrupted.

I would like to limit any device to no larger than the size of a paperback book. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: File Transfer on the Run

    I use two.

    XSDriveII 2160, 80GB of storage.
    Drawbacks:
NO verify function to prove files copied correctly
    NO exchangeable battery (not easily)
    Advantages:
    Lightweight
    Pocket sized
    Multi-card sockets

    Phototainer 80GB
    Disadvantages:
CF card only, needs adaptor for SD, XD
    Advantages:
Can verify copy, either quick (file size) or full (file contents)
    Can erase cards
    Colour Screen for image display
    Exchangeable batteries

The XSDrive does take a standard battery.
But you have to remove 4 tiny screws from the case (screwdriver supplied).
Take out the battery held in by sticky tape.
    Replace battery and 4 screws.
NOT something to do out in the field.

Neither one can actually fill the 80G drive on one charge.

    Thanks for the info, Paul!

I hadn't heard about either of those options. I'll look into it!
