    Correcting for wrong WB setting

Over the weekend I set up a slide projector and used my Canon 300D to shoot some slides (since I don't have a slide scanner). The results were acceptable; I hope to refine my technique to improve the images later.

But as part of that process, I had to set my camera's white balance to the Tungsten setting, and damn it, I forgot to change it back before shooting some outdoor shots in Baltimore's Inner Harbor on Sunday. Now the 60 or so images I shot Sunday afternoon all have a blueish cast to them thanks to the wrong WB setting.

Instead of wasting tons of time trying to find a correction, I thought it might be more efficient to simply ask here if anybody knows of a simple technique to fix the blueish cast.

At home I have Corel PhotoPaint 9, but at work I have Photoshop Elements 4.0, and access to Photoshop CS2. Do any of these applications have auto fixes or filters designed to compensate for Bonehead Mauevers liek the one I pulled Sunday?

If not, is there a relatively simple technique using standard commands?

Re: Correcting for wrong WB setting

Corel Paintshop Pro can change the WB (or the color temperature). But, I find that it is just hard to get the colors correct if jpeg and way off. It's good for color cast tweaks.

It would be no problem if you shat in RAW format.

I'm guessing the same is true for PS.

    Good luck,

What more did you shoot the blue cast images in? If RAW, try your cameras RAW conversion program. It may allow WB changes before you convert to jpg.

After doing that a few times myself I got in the habit of putting my "default settings" on the camera every time I finish cleaning up after using it.

Re: Correcting for wrong WB setting

I clean the camera(s) before each job and set the settings for that days work. I spend about an hour cleaning each body and the lenses I will use that day. Changing the settings is simple enough as I have a notebook fthat I keep track of the settings I use at each location. This really helps to get things set up and ready to start shooting as soon as I get there.

I never shoot RAW, I only shoot in JPG. Except for rare circumstances like these, I have little to no need for shooting in RAW, and no desire to go out and buy a carpload of new CF cards to accomodate the larger files.

Times like these, though, it sure would come in handy...

Re: Correcting for wrong WB setting

I had the same problem last month. Not having PS or NC, I had to correct manually in my imaging software. Tedious job, and the lesson learned has been with me since.
